Tunisia, Undersecretary Amendola meets Prime Minister Chahed

In Tunis today the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Vincenzo Amendola, accompanied by Italian Ambassador, Raimondo De Cardona, met Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, who was appointed Prime Minister in August at only 40 years of age, making him the youngest premier in the history of Tunisia. Chahed leads the new National Unity Government following the signing of an agreement between all the political forces in Carthage last July.

This evening’s meeting kicked off an intense two-day agenda of meetings with several ministers of the new Tunisian Government. The meetings will focus on Italian Cooperation’s renewed engagement in the Country and the opportunities of strengthening the bilateral partnership with a view to singling out a common response to the Country’s serious economic crisis.

The Undersecretary’s mission staunchly bears witness to how Italy looks at the capacity of the Institutions of Tunisia’s young democracy to face a new phase in the wake of the confidence vote awarded to Prime Minister Chahed, to whom Mr. Amendola confirmed Italy’s support.
