The 15th edition of the Bacchus International Wine Competition – an important event to celebrate wine that will run in Madrid from 9 to 13 March – will have a special guest star: Italy. The Unión Española de Catadores, which has been organising the event ever since its foundation, together with the Italian Embassy, signed an agreement in the Madrid Embassy through which Italy participates as a guest Country, with 50 Italian wines selected through the Italian Agency for Foreign Trade (ICE) and the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Spain. The ceremony was attended by the Italian Ambassador in Madrid, Stefano Sannino, and the director of Bacchus, Fernando Gurucharri, who underscored Italy’s consolidated expertise in producing high-quality wines and the important showcase offered by Bacchus in which to promote Italian wines thanks to the presence at the event of internationally renowned opinion leaders (Masters of Wine, Masters Sommelier, professionals of the sector and specialised journalists).
The confirmation of Italy’s nomination as guest Country of Bacchus, which falls within a broader cooperative effort between the Italian Embassy and the Unión Española de Catadores to promote Italian wines in Spain, will fall under other promotional activities scheduled during the Contest. Among the many events programmed, the Bacchus 2017 will be officially opened at the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Madrid (9 March) with the award of a special “Bacchus de Oro” to the Italian wine that will be judged to be the best by the panel of Bacchus 2017 wine-taster, which includes the extraordinary presence of Luca Gardini, the best Master Sommelier in the world in 2010 and Stefania Vinciguerra, Editor-in-Chief of the DoctorWine portal.
