Italy firmly condemns the attack against the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al Kathimi which took place in the early hours of 7 November. It is a criminal act and an attempt to strike at the heart of Iraqi democratic institutions, a few days after political elections whose management has been positively assessed by the international observers.
Italy expresses its deep solidarity with Prime Minister Kathimi, the Government and the Iraqi people and hopes that the attack will be promptly investigated and those responsible identified.
Italy reiterates its support to the stabilization of Iraq, as an essential condition for economic growth and implementation of the reforms that are needed to ensure the country a future of peace and prosperity.
