Melbourne hosts the Milano Design Film Festival

A Melbourne il Milano Design Film Festival
A Melbourne il Milano Design Film Festival

This year, the Italian Cultural Institute in Melbourne will open the 17th edition of the Milano Design Film Festival with a long documentary by Carlos Saura ”Renzo Piano: Architect of Light” and with the film ”The Importance of being an Architect” on Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, partners and co-founders of the famous Milan-based ACPV architecture and design firm.

The films testify to how the history of design in Italy becomes a history of culture: challenges, innovation, experimenting, Avant-guard, and technology give shape to machines but also to furnishings, objects, buildings and cities in the industrial and post-industrial period. The documentaries enable us to meet people from the past. They are the business leaders and the designers of all times: we get a look at the objects, visit the industries, reminisce phenomena and social contexts. Angelo Gioè, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Melbourne said he was “proud of presenting, in partnership with ACMI, and the Milano Design Film Festival (MDFF), one of the most important and original design and architecture festivals. Curated by Silvia Robertazzi and Porzia Bergamasco, the Festival aims to explore the culture of design. The 20 films selected for screening will offer a vast panorama of what is happening in each sector.”
