The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, had a telephone conversation this morning with Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen.
In renewing his congratulations to his counterpart on his recent appointment as Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani reiterated the importance that Italy attaches to the security of the State of Israel and stressed its commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. He also expressed concern about the recent developments in Iran, mentioning the Italian government’s clear condemnation of the recent executions, torture and other very serious human rights violations.
Deputy Prime Minister Tajani announced his intention to visit Israel soon, in order to strengthen bilateral partnership in all areas, starting with economic and industrial cooperation. For Italy, Israel is a friendly country and a reference point at regional level. Recalling the important role of the large Jewish community in Italy, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani assured maximum commitment at national and international level in the fight against anti-Semitism.
