The Press Conference entitled “La Grande Visione Italiana. Collezione Farnesina” (“The Great Italian Vision. Farnesina Collection”), which will launch the travelling exhibition organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy and under the general curatorship of Achille Bonito Oliva, will take place at the Farnesina, Sala Aldo Moro, on Thursday 26 January at 4 p.m.
The event, which will be hosted by Undersecretary of State Maria Tripodi and opened by the Director General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano, will be attended by the curator of the exhibition Achille Bonito Oliva, Ambassador Umberto Vattani, creator of the Collection and Angela Tecce, President of the Donnaregina Foundation for Contemporary Arts – Madre Museum.
“The Great Italian Vision. Farnesina Collection” is a unique journey through the history of Italian art from the 20th century to the present day, featuring seventy-two works selected by Achille Bonito Oliva by over sixty great artists chosen to represent Italian art, from Boccioni to Carla Accardi, from Mimmo Jodice to Michelangelo Pistoletto, from Mario Merz to Grazia Varisco.
The exhibition introduces the general international public to works selected from the Farnesina Collection, which is held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has distinguished itself over the years as a dynamic collection designed to showcase the best of contemporary Italian identity through museum-level artistic itineraries.
A bilingual catalogue has been produced together with Silvana Editoriale on the occasion of the exhibition. It includes institutional and critical texts with contributions by Achille Bonito Oliva, Cristiana Collu, Valentino Catricalà, Paola Marino, Luca Massimo Barbero, Angela Tecce and an interview by Paola Damiani with Ambassador Umberto Vattani, which retraces all the milestones of the Farnesina Collection.
The event intends to present Italian artistic identity to the international public at large, as witnessed through works selected from the Farnesina Collection according to a thematic rather than chronological itinerary.
The initiative, promoted and realised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is under the general curatorship of Achille Bonito Oliva, with curatorial development by Paola Marino and organisational coordination by Simona Rossi. The project for the exhibition is by Anna Fresa while the organisation, logistics and production are by Dafna ets.
These are the stages: Singapore – February 2023, Tokyo – March 2023, New Delhi – May 2023 and finally Seoul – July 2023. The exhibition will be held in a double venue, both institutional and public, opening a dialogue between Italian Embassies/Cultural Institutes and important museums.
There will be no live coverage of the event on the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ social media channels.

For representatives of the Italian press:

For representatives of foreign press organisations, not accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- copy of an identity document;
- letter from the newspaper of affiliation;
- Verbal note of the Embassy in Rome of the country of the press organisation represented.
For representatives of foreign press already accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request must be sent with a copy of an identity document attached.
Accredited journalists, photographers and cameramen may enter the Farnesina from the main entrance, left side, on 26 January 2023 from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m.
The use of FFP2 masks is encouraged.
