Italy has been working “to ensure that the EU Commission’s report is positive and the December European Council grants candidate status to Albania”. This was Foreign Minister Emma Bonino’s comment at the joint press conference with her Albanian colleague, Ditmir Bushati, in Tirana.

“We’re great supporters of your joining the European family”, added Bonino. She underscored that “the EU is not just an opportunity but also discipline. That applies to everybody”. The Foreign Minister hopes that, with first the Greek and then the Italian EU Presidency in 2014, “we can find important opportunities to make further progress along your pathway to the European family”.
