The Western Group has named Italy as Vice President of the Human Rights Council for 2014, a significant recognition of our country’s credibility and prominence in that Geneva forum. The task of representing the WEOG in the Council Bureau, with will be ratified during its next session on 16 December, will coincide partly with the Italian Presidency of the European Union, giving further visibility to Italy’s efforts in the field of human rights.
Progress on Israeli membership
Progress was registered during the meeting on Israeli membership in the WEOG, after the Israeli authorities came out in favour of normalising relations with the Council and the High Commission.
