“Full clarity on the attack yesterday that took the lives of Andrea Rochelli and his Russian interpreter Andrey Mironov”: this was Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini’s request in a telephone conversation this afternoon with her Ukraine counterpart Deshchytsia. Mogherini received Deshchytsia’s condolences for the death of Rochelli and assurance of full collaboration on the dynamics of the attack as well as the repatriation of the journalist’s body.
In a telephone conversation in which the two ministers exchanged condolences and spoke of the Ukraine elections, EU/Russian relations and other international situations, head of Russian diplomacy Serghei Lavrov also expressed his hopes that what happened would be fully clarified.
“This terrible attack took place on the eve of presidential elections that we hope will finally lead to peace and stability in Ukraine”, Mogherini explained. “We have agreed with both Deshchytsia and Lavrov that these elections must signal a convinced return to dialogue and the end of violence, and allow Urkraine to follow the path of reform”.
