“Along with my French colleague, with whom there was already a well established and direct relationship, we expressed our agreement on Italy’s and France’s joint responsibility as EU founding countries to boost the relaunch of the Union, taking advantage of the new opportunities granted by the Rome Declaration,” said Minister Alfano at the end of the telephone conversation with the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian.
The telephone conversation, which followed an earlier call held on May 24, enabled the dignitaries to reiterate Italy’s and France’s common interests on the European and international scene. Their agreement to meet soon to plan out the common work, is also in view of the Conference with Migration Transit Countries. It is scheduled to take place on July 6 following an Italian initiative, to which Minister Le Drian has confirmed his participation.
