Italian Ambassador Niccolò Fontana presented his letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, thus completing the official accreditation procedure with the Iraqi authorities.
During the formal ceremony held at Baghdad Palace, the Presidential Residence, Ambassador Fontana had the opportunity to meet with President Rashid, who was accompanied by Foreign Minister Hussein. Together, they briefly discussed key topics in bilateral relations and regional developments. Ambassador Fontana particularly highlighted the upcoming G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Fiuggi and Minister Tajani’s decision to dedicate part of the event to discussions on the situation in the Middle East and the Red Sea, with invitations extended to Foreign Ministers from several countries in the region. President Rashid, recalling his State Visit to Rome in 2023, reiterated his gratitude to Ambassador Fontana for the hospitality extended at the time by President Sergio Mattarella. He emphasised the deep affection he feels for Italy, dating back to his time in Rome, and expressed hope for further strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
