DEI: Ghana launches 1 billion USD plan for refurbishment of 330 km of railway

Ghana presented a project for the refurbishment of its Western Corridor railway line, running from Takoradi to Kumasi, with an extension to the mining districts of Tarkwa (manganese) and Awaso (bauxite). The project involves approximately 330 km of railway, 38 stations, two terminals and 200 bridges, for an estimated cost of nearly 1 billion USD. The Italian firm Team Group has prepared the Master Plan for the entire network, and been commissioned with revision of the project, job management and quality control. The calls for tender, which will be posted in the coming months, are subject to IMF approval of the financial plan for the entire project.
