Telephone conversations between Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf

Following the frequent talks held in recent days with his main regional counterparts on the Israeli crisis, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, today had a telephone meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf.

“Italy is ready to give its full contribution to the international community’s efforts to foster a de-escalation between the parties and prevent a regionalisation of hostilities,” stressed the Deputy Prime Minister during the talks. Equal importance was given to the resumption of the peace process, which is essential to recover a political perspective leading to a two-state solution. Tajani also stressed to both interlocutors the decisive role that leading states in the Mediterranean area, such as Türkiye and Algeria, can play in terms of mediation and in favour of peace.

As part of the intense diplomatic action promoted in recent days, the Deputy Prime Minister will be in Egypt tomorrow, where he will have further talks with President Al-Sisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Shoukry and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Gheit.
