Undersecretary Tripodi’s videoconference meeting with Chile’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, held a videoconference meeting with Gloria de la Fuente González, Chile’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The meeting noted the excellent level of bilateral relations between the two countries, as demonstrated by the State visit of the President of the Republic last July.

Chile is also an important economic and trade partner for Italy in Latin America. The Undersecretary expressed her satisfaction with the resumption of trade, which amounted to EUR 1.9 billion in 2022. She then emphasised how the friendship between the two countries encourages Italy to an even greater commitment also in terms of cooperation in the field of legal and security diplomacy.

Tripodi finally recalled the Italian request for support for Rome’s candidacy to host the World Expo in 2030. The Undersecretary hoped that Chile would vote for Rome at the polls to be held on 28 November, by virtue of the strong bilateral relations, the commonality of values between the two countries, and the opportunities that could be created for long-term partnerships in various fields.
