The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, is in Santiago, Chile, where she is wrapping up her business mission to Latin America.
During her visit, Tripodi held meetings with the Undersecretary of State for Economic Affairs and SMEs, the Minister for Energy, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and the General Commander of Carabineros de Chile, with whom she discussed in depth issues relating to security cooperation. “We have seen perfect harmony on all the key issues and a particular convergence in our joint fight against transnational organised crime and drug trafficking.”
On the eve of the Chile–Italy Business Forum, during a meeting with the Italian business community, Tripodi went on to highlight the main areas of cooperation identified between the two countries: the energy transition and the mining sector, infrastructure and public works, agribusiness and agricultural mechanisation, strategic technologies and healthcare solutions. “The aim,” she explained, “is to develop industrial and technological partnerships, creating value in both countries.”
Chile is the third-largest destination market for Italian exports to Latin America. Trade turnover exceeded EUR 2.1 billion and grew by 7.7 per cent in the first six months of 2026, whilst Italian investment in the country reached around EUR 11 billion.
