Conference of Italian Missionaries
“Training for development in Africa: the role played by Missions”
Pescara – 23 October 2024
On Wednesday 23 October 2024, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., the Conference of Italian Missionaries will be held at the Prefettura di Pescara – Palazzo della Provincia.
The event, which will be entirely open to the press, will be introduced by the reading of a message from the Holy Father and will be opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani.
The Conference will deal with the contribution provided by missionaries and mission societies to the sustainable development of the populations they serve, highlighting the impact of their work through the sharing of success stories and good practices. The event will focus on strengthening education and training opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa for young people, also considering the links with the Mattei Plan and the migration-development nexus.
The programme includes a round-table discussion with the participation of Mgr. Antonio D’Angelo, Archbishop of L’Aquila; Mgr. Emilio Nappa, President of the Pontifical Mission Societies; Mgr. Dario Viganò, Vice Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences; Father Giulio Albanese, journalist and Combonian missionary; Prof. Shahid Mobeen, President of the Council for Religious Freedom. The round-table discussion will be followed by some testimonies of missionaries and mission societies in Africa.
Journalists, photographers and cameramen interested in following the event in person may apply for accreditation by sending a request to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691 3432 – 3078, 8210 o 8573), attaching the following:
for representatives of Italian press organisations:
- copy of an identity document;
- letter of assignment from the newspaper of affiliation or – in the absence of the latter – copy of professional identity card.
For representatives of foreign press organisations, not accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- copy of an identity document;
- letter from the newspaper of affiliation;
- Verbal Note of the Embassy in Rome of the country of the press organisation represented.
For representatives of foreign press already accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request shall be sent with a copy of an identity document attached.
Please note that accreditation to this event, as indicated above, does not allow access to the works of the G7 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Pescara (22-24 October 2024). If you are interested in accrediting to follow also the works of the G7 Development Ministers’ Meeting, your request shall be received by midnight (local time) on Wednesday 16 October 2024 through the G7 Portal, registering at the link https://www.g7-2024.it/
Accredited journalists, photographers and cameramen may enter the Prefettura di Pescara – Palazzo della Provincia from 3:45 to 4.15 p,m.
