Tomorrow in Cairo the humanitarian conference for Gaza. Minister Tajani will attend

Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani will be in Cairo tomorrow 2 December to attend the Conference to Enhance the Humanitarian Response in Gaza, co-organised by Egypt and the United Nations.

The meeting aims to enhance international support and coordination regarding humanitarian aid in Gaza. Specifically, it will address critical issues such as access to Gaza for humanitarian efforts and aid distribution. Additionally, the conference will focus on the role of UNRWA in the region and discuss international coordination for future reconstruction efforts.

Italy has implemented the “Food for Gaza” project for several months to aid the Palestinian population. Since October 2023, EUR 70 million have been allocated to this effort, and last week, an additional 40 tonnes of goods arrived in Amman as part of the “Food for Gaza” initiative, building on previous contributions.

Minister Tajani emphasised that “strengthening and coordinating humanitarian aid to the Strip is a central focus of our G7 Presidency”. He noted that this issue was discussed during the Humanitarian Conference at the G7 Development Ministers’ meeting in Pescara, as well as at the recent ministerial meeting in Fiuggi-Anagni. The Minister added, “The Cairo Conference will provide an excellent opportunity to enhance our coordination with Arab partners, discuss ways to promote regional stability, and consider future reconstruction efforts”.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, and numerous Prime Ministers and Ministers from the broader Mediterranean region will gather in Cairo. This meeting will mark the first opportunity for the international community to discuss the new chapter of the crisis in Syria, particularly with the advance of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham military formations toward the southern part of the country.
