First Conference of Italian schools abroad “Growing up in Italian”, on the eve of the States-General of the Italian Language in the World

The First Conference of Italian schools abroad, entitled “Growing up in Italian”, opened this morning in Rome at the MAXXI Auditorium, with the participation of over 200 representatives from Italian educational institutions operating abroad and from the Italian Education System in the World (SFIM).

The event was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, who emphasised that Italian schools abroad are a key tool for Italy’s cultural diplomacy. He highlighted their pivotal role in promoting the Italian language, culture, and values around the world, also recalling the importance of education and training as pillars of the Mattei Plan and priorities of Italian development cooperation.

Throughout its three thematic sessions, the Conference will explore priority topics such as educational innovation, institutional partnerships, and the promotion of the Italian university system, providing a concrete opportunity for dialogue and proposals among sector stakeholders.

The initiative serves as a prelude to the fifth edition of the States-General of the Italian Language in the World, which will be opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, on Wednesday, 16 April.

This week’s events form part of the Government’s broader commitment to strengthening and promoting the Italian language worldwide, in anticipation of the International Conference on Italian Language scheduled for this autumn.
