Stabat Mater, by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, is the piece chosen by the choir of the Foreign Ministry Spouses’ Association to commemorate L’Aquila’s victims, five years on from the earthquake that destroyed much of the city. The choir will perform at a concert on Sunday 6 April 2014 in the Basilica di San Giuseppe Artigiano (Basilica of St. Joseph the Worker). The conductor will be Nancy Romano, wife of the Italian Ambassador in Kiev.
Support from Prime Minister and patronage of the Farnesina and L’Aquila City Council
Also taking part in the performance will be sopranist Gianluca Alonzi, counter-tenor Roberto Colavalle and a string quartet composed of young students from the A. Casella Conservatoire in L’Aquila. The Conservatoire itself was rebuilt with the help of the Japanese Government. The musical event is being organised with the support of the Prime Minister’s Office under the patronage of the Farnesina and L’Aquila City Council. It will be staged by Jean Paul Troili, with event management by Riccardo Tordera Ricchi.
