This morning, Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal visited the A2A waste-to-energy plant in Brescia.
The facility, inaugurated in 1998, has three production lines. In 2024, it processed over 700,000 tonnes of waste, meeting the energy needs of more than 175,000 households, providing heat to 60,000 buildings, and saving over half a million tonnes of CO₂.
A2A is a multi-utility company owned 25% by the municipality of Brescia and 25% by the municipality of Milan. Since 2008, it has operated across the country with energy and waste cycle plants. The company is Italy’s leader in waste collection, reuse and conversion (biomethane, compost, electricity and heat sources). In 2024, it recorded revenues of more than EUR 12.9 billion and a net profit of over EUR 800 million. It employs around 15,000 people.
Italy is the European country with the highest recycling rate for both special and municipal waste. For this reason, the circular economy is one of the priority sectors of the Business Forum that the two Ministers will co-chair during the day.
