The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani will be on a mission to Nice tomorrow, on behalf of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, to take part in the “Summit for a Connected Mediterranean”, organized by France on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Ocean Conference.
The Summit is dedicated to the theme of connectivity, in its physical, digital and energy dimensions. The aim is to mobilize cooperation and investment, both in the sector of connection infrastructure (underwater, maritime or terrestrial) and of terminals (physical ports or digital hubs).
The Summit, chaired by French President Macron, will be attended by many countries from the Mediterranean and Gulf basins. International financial institutions and the Heads of some of the main naval ports of the two regions have also been involved.
The Italian Government gives priority to the topics covered by the Summit.
Strategic energy interconnection projects, such as Elmed, Medlink and the Southern Hydrogen Corridor (South H2 Corridor), will allow the import of renewable energy and clean hydrogen from North Africa to Italy and Europe through submarine connections with a view to reaching energy security and diversification.
Parallel lines of action also characterize the digital interconnection sector.
Finally, the theme of maritime transport sees Italy play a leading role: the IMEC project, the India – Middle East – Europe Economic Corridor, which sees the port of Trieste positioned as a primary entry hub, must be seen in this context.
