The call for applications for the 2025 edition of the project “AIR – Artisti in Residenza”, conceived and promoted by MIDJ with financial support from SIAE, has been published. The competition aims to create a network of artistic residencies in collaboration with Italian Cultural Institutes, Embassies and Consulates in Europe and around the world, open to young and talented jazz musicians from across Italy. The goal of the project is to encourage the compositional work of the selected musicians, with the residencies serving as a significant stimulus for the creation of new and original repertoires. Residencies will take place in: Addis Ababa, Almaty, Chicago, Istanbul, Marseille, Nairobi, Rio de Janeiro, Stockholm, Tirana, and Valletta.
During the four-week residency, the artist will have the opportunity to engage with the international jazz scene, initiating a prolific process of exchange and cross-cultural inspiration. Now in its fourth edition, the AIR project has successfully achieved its objectives, offering a valuable opportunity for both professional and personal growth for the participating musicians, thanks to contacts and exchanges with local artists and the sharing of experiences with other artists in residence. Italian Cultural Institutes, Embassies and Consulates will provide hospitality and accommodation for a free four-week stay to be taken in 2026.
Applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, 15 July 2025 and will be assessed by five panels appointed by the MIDJ Board of Directors. Applications will be evaluated based on: the quality of the artistic curriculum, technical preparation, inclination towards creativity and innovation, and compositional and interpretative abilities.
