The 25th edition of the Week of Italian Cinema was held in Skopje, organised by the Embassy of Italy within the framework of the “ITALIAN SCREENS” project, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture, with the organisational support of Cinecittà and the contribution of the Italian Cultural Institute of Belgrade and the National Cinematheque of the Republic of North Macedonia.
The central theme of the 2025 edition was travel, explored through six outstanding works of contemporary Italian cinema by renowned directors – Paolo Sorrentino and Gabriele Salvatores – alongside acclaimed filmmakers such as Paolo Genovese, Ferzan Ozpetek, and Roberto Andò, as well as emerging voices like Greta Scarano, awarded Best Debut Director at the 2025 Nastri d’Argento (Silver Ribbons). The result was a diverse and representative cross-section of Italian cinematic excellence, showcasing the thematic variety, quality, and expressive power of the country’s most recent film productions. The selection included: Parthenope, L’Abbaglio, FolleMente (Best Comedy at the 2025 Nastri d’Argento), Napoli – New York, La Vita da grandi, and Diamanti, winner of both the 2025 David dello Spettatore and Nastro dell’anno.
All screenings took place at the Cinematheque of the Republic of North Macedonia and attracted full-house audiences, a clear sign of the strong and genuine bond with Italy and its culture, as well as the local public’s enduring passion for Italian auteur cinema.
