Undersecretary Silli met with IDLO Director General, Jean Beagle

He Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Giorgio Silli met today with Jean Beagle, Director General of IDLO, an international organization based in Rome dedicated to promoting the rule of law and a strategic partner with which to work in order to build peaceful, inclusive and resilient societies.

In Africa, for example, IDLO has long been contributing to the Mattei Plan, promoting the development of a legal framework favourable to public and private investment in the countries where we cooperate. Furthermore, IDLO will participate in the next Ukraine Recovery Conference, scheduled for 10 and 11 July in Rome, to contribute to the reform and strengthening of Ukrainian institutions also from a legal perspective.

The Undersecretary recalled that strengthening institutions and ensuring access to justice, in line with Goal 16 of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda, are essential conditions to ensure international growth in line with Italy’s strategic priorities. For this reason, the Government strongly supports the activities of IDLO – an organization of which it is also ex-officio Vice-President of the Assembly of Parties, hosted every year at the Foreign Ministry – and organizes every year, with the fundamental contribution of this organization, a specific International Conference dedicated to Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Agenda together with the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).
