Deputy Minister Cirielli attends the IDLO Assembly of Parties in Rome

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, attended today the Assembly of Parties of IDLO – the International Development Law Organization – held at the CNEL headquarters in Rome.

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister highlighted the longstanding cooperation between the Italian Foreign Ministry and IDLO aimed at promoting the rule of law, good governance and access to justice, particularly in Africa, in line with the Mattei Plan. Since 2024, the Italian Foreign Ministry has also been working with IDLO to implement initiatives in Latin America in the fields of justice – including the strengthening of penitentiary systems and investigative capacities – and anti-corruption. To date, activities have been carried out in Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Colombia. Since 2019, Italy has also co-organised, together with IDLO and United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the International Conference on Sustainable Development Goal 16: “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”.
