As part of the programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the meeting in Rimini, Deputy Minister Edmondo Cirielli participated in two events dedicated to the coffee and cocoa supply chains, with the aim of deepening opportunities for sustainable development and enhancement of local skills in the partner countries of Italian Cooperation.
The first meeting was dedicated to Italy’s commitment to a more resilient and sustainable coffee supply chain, with particular attention to training and opportunities for new generations. The panel brought together representatives from Ethiopia, Tanzania and Kenya’s coffee industry and institutions, together with United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), E4Impact and representatives from the Italian private sector.
In the panel dedicated to cocoa, Cacao Connect, the Italian initiative promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), was presented, born with the aim of putting diplomacy, development cooperation, industrial skills and research into a system, creating a common platform for collaboration with producing countries. The initiative will initially focus on the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Cameroon, Nigeria, Uganda and the Republic of the Congo, with measures tailored to the characteristics and needs of the various production systems. The meeting was attended by representatives of Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, Save the children Italia, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Ferrero and ICAM, alongside the Ambassadors from Ghana and Ivory Coast.
