Italy Participates in the G7+ Ministerial Meeting on the Ukrainian Energy Emergency

A new ministerial meeting of the G7+ Group on the Ukrainian energy emergency took place today, in light of the intensification of Russian attacks targeting energy infrastructure and the dire humanitarian situation, which risks triggering a population exodus from the Capital and the most vulnerable regions. On behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, Italy was represented by Undersecretary of State Giorgio Silli.

Co-chaired by the European Commission and the French G7 Presidency, with the participation of Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the meeting provided an opportunity to receive an update from Kyiv on the status of Ukrainian energy infrastructure, discuss immediate winter needs, and facilitate a sharing of initiatives by partner countries in response to Ukraine’s urgent requests for assistance.

In his speech, Silli reiterated the importance of continued support from donors, with Italy playing a leading role, especially at this critical moment for Kyiv. He also announced that the first equipment (boilers and generators) provided by Italy to address the ongoing emergency had already been delivered to Ukraine. Further shipments of generators and materials, as part of a package worth EUR 100 million set up at the end of 2025, will follow in the coming days. Additionally, in-kind supplies from Italian companies, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to the Ukrainian government’s request, will be sent through the Department of Civil Protection.
