The European Schools are sixty years old and will be celebrating their anniversary at l’École Européenne Luxembourg I, in Kirchberg, from 8 to 13 April 2013. The celebrations will include a “doors open” day and a rich programme of cultural and educational events, in the presence of representatives of the European Union and of member states’ embassies.
The school in Kirchberg is the oldest of a network created jointly by the governments of the EU’s founder members. The network now consists of 14 schools in 7 countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain and Luxembourg), and a growing number of associated national schools.
Great support from Italy for the multi-language public school model
Italy has one European School in Varese, and an associated school in Parma. Our country has always been one of the leading supporters of this model of public school. The European Schools provide multi-language and multi-cultural teaching for nursery, primary and secondary level pupils, up to European baccalauréat level.
The European Schools are official educational establishments controlled jointly by the governments of the Member States of the European Union and organised in language sections. In Italy, they all answer to the Permanent Italian Representation to the European Union.
