Tajani in Washington for the Board of Peace Meeting on Gaza

Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani will be on a mission to Washington tomorrow to attend the inaugural meeting of the “Board of Peace” for Gaza, chaired by US President Donald Trump. The first formal meeting of the Board will provide an opportunity for an update on the implementation of the American Administration’s 20-point Peace Plan and on investment and reconstruction projects in the Gaza Strip.

The head of the Italian Foreign Ministry will represent Italy in an observer capacity, on behalf of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The meeting will be attended by the Head of the Palestinian Technocratic Committee, Ali Shaaath, the High Representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov and the vast majority of Board members and observers, including representatives from the Cypriot Presidency of the EU and the European Commission.

Italy’s participation confirms its commitment to every forum dedicated to the Middle East peace process, with the aim of promoting Hamas’ disarmament, the demilitarisation of the Gaza Strip and the launch of its reconstruction, in full compliance with international law and in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which entrusts the Board of Peace with monitoring the stabilisation process in the area.

Since the outset of the crisis in Gaza, Italy has played a leading role in facilitating regional stabilisation and providing humanitarian support to the civilian population, in particular through the “Food for Gaza” initiative launched by Minister Tajani in March 2024. The Italian Government is developing a national plan that brings together the best expertise and resources of the Italian System for the reconstruction of Gaza, focusing especially on the health, education and food security sectors.

This also includes the recent mission to Riyadh and Abu Dhabi by Ambassador Bruno Archi, Special Envoy for Gaza Reconstruction at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
