Bogotà, aperta la gara internazionale per la Linea 2 della metropolitana

The Bogotá government has launched a new international tender for the construction of Metro Line 2 (L2MB), a strategic project with a total investment estimated at approximately $8.7 billion. The process, managed by the municipal company Empresa Metro de Bogotá, opens up significant opportunities for Italian companies in the infrastructure, railway, and engineering services sectors, continuing their already consolidated presence in the country.

The project will extend over a 15.5-kilometer track with eleven stations, almost entirely underground, and will connect the districts of Chapinero, Barrios Unidos, Engativá, and Suba. The new line, which will utilize an automated driving system, will serve over 2.5 million residents, with a capacity of 76,000 passengers per hour in each direction, and will save Bogotá’s population a total of 46.3 million travel hours. In terms of environmental sustainability, the infrastructure is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 87,000 tons per year.

The solidity of the financing plan for Line 2 is guaranteed by the support of multilateral organizations: the European Investment Bank (EIB) is contributing approximately $415 million; the Latin American Development Bank is contributing $255 million, and the Inter-American Development Bank confirmed a commitment of $415 million last December. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a member of the World Bank Group, has now allocated an additional $415 million following the successful conclusion of negotiations.

The city administration expressed its hope for qualified international participation to overcome the outcome of the previous tender, which failed a few weeks ago, ensuring maximum transparency and compliance with the technical deadlines for a project deemed vital to Colombia’s mobility and economic development.
