The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, spoke today at the ceremony for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) and the International Italy-Latin America Organization (IILA), held at the latter’s headquarters in Rome.
In his speech Deputy Minister Cirielli said: “ADM has extraordinary technical expertise. Since 2022, one of my main objectives has been to progressively involve as many stakeholders as possible in the Italian Development Cooperation’s action. IILA is also a historic partner of our Cooperation. Italy currently finances projects with IILA for over €15 million.”
The Memorandum – a further Italian legal diplomacy initiative targeted to Latin American countries – aims to strengthen institutional cooperation between Italy and Latin America in the customs and border management sectors, thus fostering safe economic and investment opportunities in a strategic area where Italian exports have recently reached €34 billion annually. The agreement envisages the development of joint training, capacity-building, information exchange, and technical assistance initiatives in IILA Member States, also from a multilateral perspective.
