Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, together with the President of the Treccani Culture Foundation, Mario Romano Negri, signed the Foreign Ministry – Treccani Agreement. The signing ceremony, held on the sidelines of the event “Italy-Africa: Cultures at Play,” was also attended by Carlo Ossola, President of the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute, and Massimo Bray, Director General of the Institute.
The Agreement, which is the result of negotiations that began in 2023, aims to further strengthen the collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute, a point of reference in the promotion of Italian cultural heritage. Founded in 1925 by Giovanni Treccani degli Alfieri and Giovanni Gentile, the Treccani Encyclopedia Institute is an important partner for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the promotion and dissemination of Italian culture and language throughout the world.
The agreement will support the promotion of art collections and national excellence abroad, as well as the development of cultural and creative enterprises. It will also contribute to promoting knowledge and dissemination of the Italian language through the series of events organized for the Week of the Italian Language in the World – of which Treccani is a partner – and within the new Community of Italophonia, launched by Minister Tajani in November 2025. Particular attention will also be paid to initiatives related to the Institute for Italy-Africa Dialogue (IDIAF), a research forum created by Treccani and funded by the Foreign Ministry, for deepening cultural relations between Italy, Europe, and Africa, in line with the strategic objectives set forth in the Mattei Plan.
