Ambassador Paolo Cuculi inaugurated the exhibition “Maria La Callas: The Art of Italian Costume Design in Film”, organised by the Embassy at the prestigious Benaki Museum in Athens, in collaboration with Polimoda as educational partner—represented by its Director, Massimiliano Giornetti—and under the patronage of the Italian National Chamber of Fashion.

The exhibition highlights Italian excellence in costume design for cinema and theatre, presenting 18 garments, accompanied by jewellery and accessories, created by the renowned costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini.

The opening ceremony, attended by the Greek Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, gathered over 160 representatives from Greek authorities, the diplomatic corps and the economic, fashion and cultural sectors.

On this occasion, Ambassador Cuculi underlined the importance of costume design for Italian fashion, stemming from the excellence of Italian designers, tailors and artisans who, for generations, have preserved and passed down unique skills and expertise, a hallmark of Made in Italy.

The Athens event forms part of the “Italian Fashion Days in the World”, a series launched last year at the initiative of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, in cooperation with Italian Trdae Agency and the main industry associations.
