Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli chaired the third meeting of the Joint Committee for Development Cooperation for 2026 today at the Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, a package of measures totalling over €620 million was approved, in line with the 2026 Programming Plan, adopted at the Joint Committee meeting chaired by Minister Tajani on May 15.
The focus is still on Africa, for which interventions worth approximately €500 million have been adopted, including over €120 million under the Mattei Plan. Projects worth approximately €30 million were also adopted from the Regional Fund, which is aimed at developing and implementing joint projects between the Italian Cooperation Agency and our Regions to promote territorial partnerships with partner countries. The initiatives adopted involve Veneto in Mozambique, Lombardy in Kenya, Calabria in Tunisia, and Tuscany in Senegal.
Contributions totalling over €13 million have also been adopted for international organizations.
Of the total €620 million, €449 million are from loans managed by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, primarily earmarked for African multilateral banks such as the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TDB) for projects supporting food security and the Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement (BOAD) for sustainable development in West Africa.
