Telephone conversation between Undersecretary Di Stefano and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan

A telephone conversation took place today between Undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Muzaffar Huseynzoda.

The topics discussed included Covid-19 and its social and economic repercussions; bilateral relations and the Italian role in Central Asia, also with the first Italy-Central Asia Conference held in Rome last December; mutual support in the international arena.

Di Stefano recalled Italy’s commitment to the International Vaccine Alliance. He invited its Tajik counterpart to join the project and specified that the drug should be made available to all and at cost-price. Huseynzoda officially thanked Italy for the European Union’s assistance package offered to Tajikistan.

The Undersecretary also recalled Italy’s commitment to intensify the relations between Italy and the countries of Central Asia. He also recalled the success of the “Italy-Central Asia Conference” held last December in Rome. Di Stefano suggested that the event could be held regularly in the coming years, alternately in Italy and one of the countries of the Region.

Finally, Huseynzoda expressed full appreciation for Italy’s regional and transversal approach, with reference to the transport, connectivity, and sustainable development sectors, already included in the agenda of the Rome Conference.
