The third annual meeting of the inter-institutional anti-corruption committee was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with the committee comprising about 20 people from ministries and central public administration offices, the judiciary and law enforcement officials. The committee coordinates the work of Italian delegations to international organisations that deal with preventing and combatting corruption and the development of integrity and transparency.
The Committee was chaired by the Inspector General of the Ministry and the foreign offices, Natalia Quintavalle, and a presentation was made by Serena Stella, lawyer, deputy Secretary-General of the Antitrust Authority with a report entitled Protection of competition and combating corruption: synergies and defence of the law.
The Director General for Global Affairs Luca Sabbatucci informed the Committee that Italy would co-chair the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) in 2020. The ACWG is one of the most consolidated, dynamic entities of the G20, and also includes international organisations (UNODC, OECD, World Bank, IMF, FATF); the Italian delegation to the Group is led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Therefore, Italy, which has already been chosen to host the G20 in 2021, will have special responsibility in this area, and will basically have to manage the work for two years.
It is a decisive forum from which to project Italy’s laws on preventing and combating corruption at an international scale and this will have a positive impact on the country’s reputation by reducing the gap between perception and reality with respect to our regulatory models.
