The Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transdniestrian Settlement Process Franco Frattini, is in Kiev today to attend the Yalta European Strategy Conference. It is a prestigious event that the Ukrainian capital hosts every year, gathering institutional representatives, politicians, opinion leaders and internationally renowned intellectuals. Ukraine’s President, Petro Poroshenko, is to open the event. SR Frattini will deliver his address to one of the Conference’s key sessions entitled “The Future of Europe”, which is scheduled to be attended also by Tony Blair, Carl Bildt, Manuel Walls and the European Commission’s Vice-President Dombrovskis. While in Kiev, SR Frattini will meet with the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister, Klimkin. He will also meet his Ukrainian counterpart, Viktor Kryzhanivsky, with whom he will attend an event organized by the Italian Embassy on the Transdniestrian conflict. The event is also open to the 57 OSCE Participating Countries. The Ukrainian crisis, also in the bordering regions, and the protracted conflict in Transdniestria are among the priority issues of the 2018 OSCE Italian Chairmanship, as shown by the presence in Kiev of SR Franco Frattini, a day after the mission conducted by the OSCE’s Special Representative for Combating Corruption, Severino” said Ambassador Davide La Cecilia. He reaffirmed the full support of the Organization which, he added, “represents an essential platform for the promotion of dialogue to enhance common security.”
