NORWAY. NEXT CALL FOR TENDERS IN THE RAILWAY SECTOR

The public company that manages the railway network, Norske Tog, owner of the rolling stock on the Norwegian network, has announced the decision to replace the rolling stock used on a number of lines in southern Norway and the complete renewal of its fleet of bed wagons. New trains will be purchased for the lines Bergen (from Oslo to Bergen), Dovrebanen (from Eidsvoll to Trondheim via Dombaas), Srlandsbanen (from Oslo via Kongsberg and Kristiansand to Stavanger), Nordlandsbanen (between Trondheim and Bodoe).

To illustrate its business plans and announce the details of the tender, Norske Tog invited interested companies to an information meeting on 28 October in Oslo. The meeting will also explain the characteristics and requirements for the tenders. Participation in the meeting is limited to 50 people due to anti-COVID regulations. Still, the event will also be available in live streaming.

The Norwegian railway company plans to completely replace the country’s long-distance rolling stock fleet within the next ten years, with half of the existing stock to be replaced within the next five years.

The trains in service on the Bergen line will be the first to be replaced, followed by a contract for the renewal of the night service on the long-distance lines. It is expected the purchase of about 100 long-distance trains to be put into service in the period 2025-2033.
