Hong Kong – 250 Italian wine brands taken to “Vinexpo”

Italian wine is ready to conquer China in the seventh edition of Vinexpo Hong Kong. The international show, running from 24 to 26 May, will concentrate in China’s commercial and financial capital (at the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre – Wanchai, Hong Kong) the major players in the global wine producing sector, while placing a special focus on Italy.

A delegation of 21 companies, organised by the Associazione Italiana Export – AIE (stand Level 1-GH 45, Level 1-FG 48), which represents over 250 brands from 9 of the most representative wine-producing regions, will represent Italy at the show. Ms Silvana Ballotta, CEO of Business Strategies, a Florence-based company that promotes the internationalisation of 500 Italian winemakers, said: “With 1300 international exhibitors from more than 35 Countries, Vinexpo Hong Kong is the wine fair of reference for the Asia Pacific area and represents a starting point for our producers. The time has now come to accelerate our pace, starting with promotion. In fact, the data on wine exports to China during the first quarter of 2016 that were recently disseminated by Chinese customs authorities – Ms Ballotta went on – portray an Italy that has increased sales by 15% but is losing market shares to its principal competitors, only positioning it at 5th place. In such a strategic market, which this year has conferred to Italy the place of Country of Honour, we must be capable of creating new opportunities in which to promote Made-in-Italy wines.”
