The show ‘Don Q. – Don Quixote de la Mancha’ will be performed for the first time in Albania by the Italian Aterballetto ballet and modern dance group. The event will take place on April 5 at the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Tirana. It was organised by the Italian Embassy, the Italian Institute of Culture, the Ministry of Culture and the City Hall of the Albanian capital. The proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Shkolla Baletit ballet school in Tirana to create a scholarship intended for students from outlying areas of Albania. The show was choreographed by Eugenio Scigliano. His hand clearly shows in the interpretation of the character of Don Quixote, which expresses disorientation and a strong need to stick to his ideals against all odds. In a period of sudden and menacing changes, Don Quixote embodies the essence of an artist, using the power of sensitivity in his mission to keep the sense of wonder alive, despite everything. The story is told using Spanish music from the seventeenth century to the present, and with compositions by the Finnish Kimmo Pohjonen. The lead role is taken by the Albanian dancer Hektor Budlla, winner of the Dance Meeting contest with the pas de deux from The Nutcracker. After attending a course at the Dance School of Aterballetto, he danced with the Ballet of Rome from 2002 to 2008. In August 2008 he returned to Aterballetto.
