The Ambassador of Italy to Bulgaria, Marcello Apicella, took part in the press conference for the 12th edition of the Cinelibri International Film and Literature Festival, conceived by publisher Jacqueline Wagenstein. The event was held on 24 September at the Central Military Club in Sofia. Irina Dakova, Sofia’s Deputy Mayor responsible for Culture and Tourism, was also in attendance.
In his remarks, Ambassador Apicella recalled the important role played by Italian cinema in promoting knowledge of Italy around the world and enhancing the country’s image, highlighting its ability to tell distinctive stories of universal significance.
The third edition of Italian Screens, an initiative devoted to promoting Italian cinema abroad and supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Culture and Cinecittà, will feature screenings of eight Italian films. The Italian Gala Evening, scheduled to take place on 17 October at the Lumière Cinema, will open with a screening of Nanni Moretti’s film Succederà questa notte (“It Will Happen Tonight”), adapted from short stories by Eshkol Nevo.
The Festival Director, Jacqueline Wagenstein, emphasised that audiences would have the opportunity to meet some of the directors and leading actors involved in the films included in the programme.
The festival will run from 15 October to 8 November in Sofia and seven other Bulgarian cities, with the support of Sofia Municipality, the Bulgarian National Film Centre and the local authorities concerned.
