The Bolivian government has approved a project for the construction of 46 new hospitals throughout the country by the end of 2017, with an investment of 1.624 billion dollars. Health Minister Adriana Campero announced the project and explained that the plans include four highly complex (level 4) hospitals in Cochabamba (Oncology), La Paz (Gastroenterology), Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Nephrology) and Tarija (Cardiology). These will account for an investment of 415 million dollars. Plans also include 11 “Level 3” hospitals, for which 609 million dollars have been earmarked, and 31 “Level 2” hospitals that will add to the 200 “initial treatment” hospitals already operating in Bolivia.
