Lieutenant General Francesco Langella (Director of DAAA – Air Armaments and Airworthiness Directorate) has signed an agreement with his U.S counterpart, Brig. Gen. Timothy Gowen, on the mutual recognition of authorities between their respective military agencies. Lieutenant General Langella was acting in his capacity of national director for the airworthiness of all military aircraft and national corps, and Brig. Gen. Timothy Gowen in that of Delegate of the U.S. Triservice Airworthiness Authorities.
The agreement stems from the need to define the competences of the two parties in airworthiness management. This will make it possible, for example, for the crews of one country to use the military aircraft of the other without further procedural requirements.
The agreement was signed at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC in the presence of Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero and Defence and Defence Cooperation Attaché, Major General Giovanni Fantuzzi.
“The signing of the mutual recognition certificate is one more important step forward in the already very close cooperation, including in military affairs, between our two countries. It comes after numerous meetings at the Embassy between the Office of the Defence Attaché, DAAA representatives, and their counterparts from the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Army forces,” said Ambassador Bisogniero. For Lieutenant General Langella, “this was an important step because bilateral mutual recognition enable both military authorities to apply a simplified system, without neglecting the security aspects”.
