Gentiloni hosts working lunch with Ambassadors of member countries of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, hosted a working lunch today, 4 May 2015, with the Ambassadors accredited to Rome of the member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Minister Gentiloni’s initiative follows the meeting with the Ambassadors of Arab League member countries on 23 February 2015. It was an opportunity for strategic communication to foster dialogue to counter the Da’esh narrative based on hatred. It is part of the Da’esh counter-narrative activity that Italy is taking forward with other members of the international anti-ISIS coalition.

“The cooperative approach characterising the OIC has another strategic value and can make all the difference in the way the international community tackles the regional crises. We are therefore very interested in forging stronger relations with the OIC, the authoritative voice of the Islamic world”, declared Gentiloni.

Minister Gentiloni spoke with the OIC Ambassadors of the migration emergency and the importance of resuming the Peace Process and supporting the UN mediation for a political solution of the Libyan crisis. “The Italian government is fully aware that we share the same interests and must address the same challenges”, concluded the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
