A masterpiece by Botticelli on show in Vladivostock

It is the first time that the Russian Far East hosts a work from an Italian museum. The “Madonna della Loggia” by the famous Italian Renaissance master Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510) and that belongs to the collection of the Uffizi Galleries of Florence, was displayed today in an event that forms part of the cultural programme of the Fifth Eastern Economic Forum of Vladivostok.

As was affirmed by the Italian Ambassador in Moscow, Pasquale Terracciano: “The exhibit of a masterpiece by Botticelli during Italy’s first participation in the Forum marks a unique event with a great symbolic value, that is in line with our effort to also bring our culture to the farthest regions, in order to make our art accessible to many Italy-lovers throughout the Russian Federation.”

The work will be on display at the Primorye State Art Gallery in Vladivostok until 6 November and, on 17 November, it will be moved to the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg as part of the events for the 8th International Cultural Forum.

The initiative was organised by the Italian Embassy in Moscow in partnership with the Uffizi Galleries of Florence, the Primorye State Art Gallery in Vladivostok, the State Hermitage Museum and with the support of Sberbank, the leading banking group in Russia. Also blind and visually impaired people will have access to the masterpiece: a tactile copy of the painting will be displayed alongside the original artwork and will be accompanied by an ad hoc audio guide.
