In the upcoming days, the celebrations for the Republic Day will move to Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco. Ambassador Varricchio will participate in the celebrations for the Republic Day scheduled to take place in New York City on 3 June, after the traditional ‘Italy Run’, a race which will take place on 2nd June at Central Park, in cooperation with the New York Road Runners Association that organises the yearly marathon. The celebrations will close on 4 June, at the Consulate General in Chicago, during an event featuring a concert by soprano Elisabetta Russo, accompanied at the piano by Roberta Terchi Nocentini.
The Washington event has been supported by contributions granted by several private partners who share a passion for Italy, and have offered the guests attending a panorama of contemporary Italy, a country which is home to traditions, innovation and high technology.
Italian Embassy in Washington hosts reception for Italy’s Republic Day
The Italian Embassy in Washington formally started the celebrations for Italy’s Republic Day in the United States of America yesterday. The traditional reception in the prestigious venue of the Italian Embassy was attended by more than 1,800 guests who share their love for Italy. Several representatives of the United States Administration participated in the event, alongside with members of political, economic and cultural circles of the capital city. Numerous Italian and foreign officials of the international financial institutions and of the American States Organization attended, as well as many North Americana citizens who proudly boast their Italian descent.
Following the national anthems, sung by a choir of Italian children, Ambassador Armando Varricchio recalled how “the future of our societies lies solidly on the pillars of democracy, freedom, the rule of law, justice and of our unchangeable and continuous effort to defend and promote human rights in our homeland and abroad. Profound bonds unite Rome and Washington .”
United States Trade Secretary Wilbur Ross, who represented the United States, underlined that there is a profound friendship which binds our countries and our peoples together. Among the dignitaries there was President Trump’s Advisor Kellyanne Conway and the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Andrew Wheeler.
