Lima: Meeting of the Directors of the Italian Cultural Institutes

The Undersecretary of State Guglielmo Picchi chaired the Opening Session of an Area Coordination Meeting of the Directors of the Italian Cultural Institutes and of the School Directors of Central and South America that was held in Lima (8-9 April), at the attendance of the Foreign Ministry’s Director General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation, Vincenzo De Luca, Ambassador Giancarlo Curcio, a large delegation from the Foreign Ministry, the Diplomatic Advisor to the MIBAC and the Secretary General of the Dante Alighieri Society.

The event offered the opportunity to stress the importance of the Italian language and culture in the perspective of broadening the integrated promotion of Brand Italy in the light of the strong ties between our Country and this region. The hundreds of Italian cultural events organised every year and the growing number of those wanting to learn Dante’s language is proof of the success achieved up to now by the “Italian Way of Life” campaign, launched thanks to the commitment of several Italian Institutions engaged and coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, Undersecretary Picchi – together with the Peruvian Minister of Culture, Ulla Holmquist Pachas, Director De Luca, Italian Ambassador Giancarlo Curcio and Maurizio Bezzeccheri, Director of Enel South America – opened the Da Vinci Experience multimedia exhibition, produced by the Florence-based Crossmedia and co-organised by the Foreign Ministry and Enel. The stop in Peru is the first in a long itinerary that will involve several Latin American Countries to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, the quintessential symbol of human creativity and Italian ingenuity. The exhibition will be on display until the 9th of June at the prestigious premises of Peru’s Ministry of Culture, which strongly sponsored the project. The inauguration was attended by eminent personalities from Peru’s world of politics, diplomacy, culture and business.
