Milan will be hosting the 2024 IAC (International Astronautical Congress), the 75th edition of the most important world event in the space sector. This was announced by the committee that promoted Milan as the candidate, and consisting of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (representing the academic world), and Leonardo for the Italian aerospace industry.
Milan won out over other important candidate cities such as Budapest (Hungary), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Seville (Spain) and Adelaide (Australia), and was selected by the more than 400 delegates of the General Assembly of the IAF (the International Astronautical Federation) from 73 countries all over the world, who have been meeting these recent days in Dubai for the 72nd edition of the IAC.
The slogan chosen for IAC75 will be “Responsible Space for Sustainability” as a way of sensitising the international community to a more aware and responsible use of the space environment; the 2024 edition will therefore rotate around the themes of diversity and inclusiveness. It will be hosted at MiCo – Milano Convention Centre, the largest conference centre in Europe with a total capacity of 21,000 seats. This will be the fifth time that Italy is hosting the IAC: the first was in Rome in 1956, followed by Rome again in 1981, Turin in 1997, and Naples in 2012. So this is yet another important recognition of Italian excellence in the space and aerospace sector.
