Under-Secretary Mario Giro met the Foreign Minister of Colombia, Maria Angela Holguin, yesterday (28 April 2014). Minister Holguin was in Rome representing President Manuel Santos at the ceremony for the canonisation of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II. During their friendly conversation, Minister Holguin illustrated the progress made in the peace talks currently taking place in Havana, Cuba, between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC)
Staying in the Latin American context, Minister Holguin and Under-Secretary Giro exchanged views on the dialogue in Caracas between the Venezuelan Government and the opposition. The two also discussed integration processes in Latin America, such as the Pacific Alliance. Colombia, as the Under-Secretary reiterated, is a strategic partner for Italy in the region.
