As part of the 17th edition of the Festival of Diplomacy, a debate on the main issues in international current affairs took place on 22 October at Palazzo Borromeo, the seat of the Embassy of Italy to the Holy See, a debate took place on the main issues in international current affairs between Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Oriental Churches, and Ambassador Giampiero Massolo, former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of the Scientific Committee of the Festival.
The event, organised to mark the 26th edition of Week of the Italian Language in the World, was opened with an official address by the Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See, Francesco Di Nitto, and moderated by Dr Massimo Franco, a columnist for Corriere della Sera. Among the many guests were Italian and Vatican dignitaries, academics and students, members of the diplomatic corps, media and civil society.
